Background

Xiang Qu is an Associate in Cummings & Lockwood’s Private Clients Group and is based in the Greenwich office.  Xiang focuses his practice on counseling high-net-worth individuals and fiduciaries in a wide range of matters, including tax planning, trust administration, probate/estate settlement and philanthropic giving.

During law school, Xiang worked at the Charities Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General’s Office where he drafted documents filed with the Probate Court and assisted in recovering over 1 million dollars for an overseas charitable beneficiary in an estate dispute.  He also worked in the Office of Appeals at Massachusetts Department of Revenue where he assisted in dispute settlements with both individual and corporate taxpayers and drafted memoranda on topics relating to state sales/meals tax and preclusive effects of federal statutes on state taxation authority for internal reference and executive rule-making discussions.  

Xiang has a great interest in philanthropy and charitable causes.  He assisted one of his law professors in conducting extensive research on tax aspects of charitable giving and regulation on private foundations.  He also attended the first China-U.S. Philanthropy Forum in Hawaii.
