Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney, Cara Howe Santoro, Promoted to Counsel

Cummings & Lockwood LLC is pleased to announce that Cara Howe Santoro, an associate in the Firm’s Private Clients Group, has been promoted to Counsel.
“Cara performs outstanding legal work and we were pleased to recognize her important contributions to the Firm, especially in the areas of tax and philanthropy,” noted Jonathan B. Mills, Chairman and Managing Director of Cummings & Lockwood.
Based in the Firm’s Stamford office, Cara advises individuals and entities on a broad range of state, federal and international tax issues. She counsels charitable and other nonprofit organizations on issues related to their tax-exempt status, including formation, governance and compliance. She also assists donors with developing and implementing their charitable giving goals. Cara works with individuals on personal tax planning and helps family businesses to operate and provide for intergenerational transfers in a tax efficient manner
She received her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, her J.D. cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law, and her B.A. in Economics and Spanish, cum laude, from the College of the Holy Cross.
Cara has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in the nonprofit area from Connecticut and New England Super Lawyers, as well as named “Ones to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America.
She writes and speaks extensively on a broad range of philanthropic issues, including charitable tax planning for individuals and charities; charitable deductions by individuals, partnerships and corporations; and creating and operating charitable entities.
Cara lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.
