Rani Newman Mathura is the principal-in-charge of the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, office of Cummings & Lockwood where she is a member of the Private Clients Group.  She focuses her practice on estate planning, estate and trust administration and probate litigation.  Rani also represents guardians and conservators.  She frequently lectures on estate and tax planning topics to attorney and community audiences.  Rani received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center, and her LL.M. in Estate Planning from the University of Miami.  Prior to joining the Firm, she was the probate staff attorney for the 15th Judicial Circuit Court, Palm Beach, Florida.  In addition, Rani has been resident in the firm’s Greenwich, Connecticut, and Bonita Springs, Florida, offices.  Rani is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Florida, New York and Michigan.

Rani has been nationally and locally recognized for her pro bono contributions.  In 2006 she received the ABA Star of the Year Award for her work with victims of Hurricane Katrina.  In 2003, Rani received the Greenwich Probate Court’s Pro Bono Award.  She has continued to be recognized by the Greenwich Probate Court each year since 2003 for her ongoing pro bono service to the Court.  The Connecticut Law Tribune New Leaders of the Law, Advocacy of the Law Award was given to Rani in 2002 and former Governor Rowland named June 14, 2002, as “Rani Newman Mathura Day” in the state of Connecticut to honor Rani’s work coordinating the ABA/FEMA hotline for victims of the September 11th disaster.  In addition, Rani was a 2007 recipient of the Fairfield County Business Journal “40 under 40” Award which recognizes extraordinary business leadership and success in the field of law. 

Rani is a member of the Executive Committee of Professional Advisors of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.  She is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and the North County Section of the Bar.  Rani is a past Chair of the Board of Directors for Audubon Greenwich and former member of its Executive Committee.  She is a member of the Junior League of Greenwich.
