Cummings & Lockwood LLC Celebrates 100th Anniversary
On September 1, 1909, Homer S. Cummings and Charles D. Lockwood first opened the doors of Cummings & Lockwood on the fifth floor of the Stamford National Bank Building.  The Firm started as a small, community-based law practice that served the needs of local families and businesses.

The founding partners were good friends and accomplished lawyers.  Homer Cummings had been a Connecticut State's Attorney, as well as a three-term Mayor of Stamford.  Later he was appointed the United States Attorney General under  President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Charles Lockwood was also a person of considerable talents.  He had served as Chief Probate Judge for the City of Stamford, had been a respected member of the Connecticut Legislature, maintained a busy law practice and was actively involved in numerous community service roles.  Most importantly, both were committed to doing first-rate legal work for clients on interesting and important matters.  A commitment to placing their clients' interests first, adhering to the highest professional standards, and working collectively with exceptional lawyers and staff, are hallmarks that continue to this day.

Certainly, much has changed since Cummings & Lockwood's inception.  Our Firm's larger size and breadth, the increased specialization of our practices, the greater complexity in state and federal legislation affecting our clients, our entry into new markets and practice areas, and vast changes in technology and communications have altered the way we work.

The pace of these changes has been and will be dramatic.  Through it all, we have succeeded by striving for excellence: in the character and technical ability of our lawyers, in the skills and dedication of our staff, in the quality of our work product, and in the scope and continuity of our client relationships.

As we recognize this important anniversary -- a milestone that few institutions of any size or resources achieve -- we do so with pride and gratitude.

To our clients, colleagues and friends, thank you for your support.  We look forward to working with you in 2010 and beyond.

Sincerely,

Jonathan B. Mills

Chairman and Managing Director
