Compensation & Benefits

Cummings & Lockwood's salaries have continued to rise, and our benefits have expanded. We believe that our salary structure and associate bonus program have always placed Cummings & Lockwood in superior position to many Connecticut firms and in competition with all. The starting salary for first-year associates is determined each year prior to the commencement of the hiring season and increases are given on an annual basis.

The firm has adopted a number of significant benefits for associates, including:
  • Four weeks paid vacation

  • Medical and dental insurance

  • Life, voluntary supplemental life, long-term disability and voluntary long term care insurance

  • 401(k) and profit sharing plans

  • Credit union membership

  • Flexible spending accounts (dependent and health care)

  • Employee Assistance Program

In addition to our general benefits package, we pay the cost of these additional benefits for our associates:
  • Bar review course and exam registration fees

  • Membership in local and state bar associations

  • Tuition and expenses for continuing legal education programs

  • Parking at all C&L locations or train commutation subsidy

  • Assistance with closing costs associated with purchase or sale of a home

  • Occupational taxes for Connecticut and Florida

  • Professional liability insurance
Partnership Opportunities

Cummings & Lockwood has adopted a structure in which associates may first be considered for income partnership as early as six years after graduation from law school; consideration for equity partnership may occur at anytime thereafter. Partnership decisions are based on a number of factors including the quality of work, judgment, productivity, willingness and capacity to work harmoniously with others, contribution to the financial success of the firm and the ability to accept and discharge the firm's responsibilities to clients and to inspire their confidence.
